To clean sterling silver earrings, place them in a bowl containing water, vinegar, salt, baking soda and aluminum foil. Polish them with a cloth after soaking.
This 20-minute method requires a bowl, boiling water, aluminum foil, measuring spoons, a measuring cup, salt, baking soda, white vinegar and a microfiber cloth.
-
Prepare the bowl
Line a small bowl with a sheet of aluminum foil, making sure the shiny side of the foil is facing up.
-
Add the ingredients
Put 1 tablespoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon salt in the bowl. Drizzle 1/2 cup white vinegar over the dry ingredients. When the fizzing subsides, add 1 cup boiling water.
-
Submerge the jewelry
Drop the earrings into the bowl. Wait several minutes, then stick a measuring spoon into the bowl, and use it to flip over the earrings. Both sides must spend time in contact with the foil. Wait another minute, then scoop the earrings out of the bowl.
-
Shine the earrings
Rub the earrings with a microfiber polishing cloth until they are dry and gleaming. Rest them on the cloth for 10 minutes, and then return them to your jewelry box.
-
Clean up
When the bowl is cool enough to handle, dump the contents into a sink, and discard the aluminum foil.
