PERIDOT

Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August, making it a popular choice for individuals born in that month.  The name "peridot" is derived from the Arabic word "faridat," meaning gem. It is also known as "olivine" due to its olive-green color. Peridot is primarily found in volcanic rocks and has been mined for over 3,000 years, with notable deposits in countries like Egypt, Myanmar, and the United States. 

On the Mohs scale of hardness, peridot ranks between 6.5 and 7, making it relatively durable but still requiring care to prevent scratches. While peridot is commonly known for its vibrant green color, it can range from yellowish-green to brownish-green. The intensity and hue of the green can vary based on the iron content in the crystal.
